MUSANG BERBULU AYAM
March 16, 2008It is of no surprise when the DAP leaders acted shamefully in two different incidents ; Perak and Selangor. It is their knee jerk reflex not to bow to anything that sounds Malays eventhough they have been championing the concept of Malaysian Malaysia. Unfortunately it can be translated literally as anything but Malay !! There are sensitivities that should be respected and acting in such arrogance may cause disharmony . These acts showed blatant hipocracy and revealed true colours of a rotten intent.
Living in urban societies ; exposed to the unlimited power of the cyber space , the struggles of DAP becomes music to the ears of the young. It is by nature that the young possesses anti-establishment traits , rebel without a cause usually. Being equal has always been the core of democracy but it should be realized that it traverses socialisme and communisme. It’s the way one intrepretes the concept and it should be addressed and tailored to the community and ethnicity. There is no such “fit for all” wear that can be applied to all.
One has to remember that DAP has always been anti-Malay whether they want to admit it or not. The party was formed in that sentiment and my guess is the younger professionals who joined or sympathizers may not realize this. They would have thought that ideals maybe similar to PKR or GERAKAN which walk in the same direction. Let me bring you back in history in the Party’s first national congress :
Setapak Declaration
The Setapak Declaration affirms DAP’s viewpoint that in the process of nation-building, ethnic equality must be made the paramount principle, and it is upon this principle that the separation of citizens into “Bumiputra” and ” non- Bumiputra” is strongly opposed. On policies relating to culture and education, the Declaration stresses the spirit of the National Constitution must be respected; while firmly accepting Bahasa Malaysia as the national language, the right of using other languages must be protected.
( July 29 , 1967 )
Of course Lim Guan Eng and his father Kit Siang have no respect for what Malaysia was built on – in putting the Malay Sultanate as the pillar of the constitution . It is never their believe and will never be. Thus such rude acts to states with the royals will be forthcoming .The latest “songkok” saga by YB Teng in Selangor is expected. He may deny the fact that it had happened recently but he had made statements before and it was recorded in his blog :
Teng Chang Khim, Tuesday, 25 July 2006
It has been the DAP policy not to wear the No. 1 suit which comes with a songkok. I have never worn one since 1995.I had even protested when the invitation cards to attend the swearing in ceremony of Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar as the Selangor Menteri Besar at Alam Shah palace in 1997 stated, unprecedentedly, that all the guests were required to wear songkok. Upon my protest, the directive was withdrawn. However, the palace had later again imposed the ruling after the present Sultan came to the throne. Since then, I had never attended any official functions that required the wearing of songkok.
Do not be surprised in later state proceedings , these group of people may act rudely and show their arrogance to the Sultans. I believe that as human beings , we have to respect each other regardless religion or race . It is in the teachings of Islam , Christianity , Buddhism and all beliefs to accord respect and grace in creating harmony. DAP has to remember that such provoking action may create heavy protest from the Malays ; not because they are Chinese but of arrogance to disrespect cultural sensitivity. We should remain Asian and uphold our universal principles and not behaving similar to the past western colonials .
for goodness sake, isn;t it about time you people stop stoking racial tensions. not everything is explainable by race.
the issue that LKS raised has got nothing to do with the MB being malay, it has to do with the MB not representing the majority……isn’t that the same argument that UMNO uses ?
as it happens, i am chinese and an ipohite and i have nothing against PAS. i do have a lot of respect for the Perak royal family and so i am willing to accept their decision.
as for songkoks etc……who cares about appearances…..it’s what is in the heart that counts…….no point wearing songkoks, national costume or whatever then stealing from the people.
My postmortem
Malaysian sentinel has made some legitimate points. So has tengku. Its high time we learnt that the race based politics with a single race party practising supremacy is an ancient and feudal concept. As our election results show, its quickly getting outdated. Everybody needs to be happy to make our nation a success.
I feel that similar to the DAP comments, the comments of our the powerfull political party hurt the feelings of many of the minorities prior to the elections.
The Indians have been loyal BN supporters for genereations. Their votes were akin to fixed deposit acoounts, small but guranteed returns. And its the ants that bite. Losing the Indian vote lost the government many states.
Many Indians hold respectable positions in the government, are high ranking civil servants and successfull businessmen. The perceived notion was that many of them were happy with the way things were.
When thousands of them took to the street, a legitimate and concerned comittee from the govenment should have reached out to them. Their protest at that time were neither anti-government nor anti-malay and definately not anti-islamic.
They had pressing issues which were never addressed. Tengku could never have know their issues .
You see even I,as a well heeled Indian am ashamed to say that I never knew members of my community lived in such poverty. And such neglect. I was completely clueless. Check out the way their living quaters in abondoned estates are, see how their small but precious temples were torn apart in front of them for development (one was even relocated next to a sewerage tank!!) and the condition of their little tamil schools.
Its all on You Tube. Everything is on You Tube nowadays.
The urban indian poor has all the ills of inner city blacks and hispanics in the States, crime, alcoholism, drug abuse.
Its definately not the fault of UMNO, its just that the twin towers and the malaysian GP overshadowed all these things.
When these people took to the streets to make a statement, they were all collectively branded as penyaggak, thugs and subjected to powerfull streams of water cannons.( how many of the demonstaters in Penang got wet?-sorry, low blow)
Thats how we lost the Indian vote. Many of my Malay brothers, especially the simply, kind rural ones and the well educated internet savy urbanites fely thet the whole community was branded and subjected to unfair treatment during that period. Some from the opposition even started drawing them over.
That would have been a good point to reach out to them, take action against irresponsible state governments and help those in dire need of electricty and water!!! Malaysia would have gone up a few notches in the eyes of the world. How many governments are brave enough to acknowledge their oversight and take remedial action?
That would have been a good day for the country. Alas, we all know what happened. What nearly happened is scary, when certain quaters were instigated to gather their arms and stand by. Thank God for the special branch who were quick and impartial.
That was the tipping point that made BN lose two thirds. Single events dont lead to disasters, its a culimination of small events. The Hindraf demonstrations were one of those.
I for one feel that members of my community have been shortcharged post electrions. Temple demolitions definately will stop, but how much can they expect from ‘makkal sakthi’ led by Anwar Ibrahim?
There are many good leaders in the UMNO led BN governtment who can do substantial good for my commnunity, the lawyer Datuk Dr Ahmad Zahid, is a good example. Our prime Minister and his deputy did their best at damge control, those in the grassroots know.
The new blood of MIC reps in the Cabinet will also do the party some good.
The UMNO led governement is still in charge and can do a lot of good for everyone. The question is, they or rather we must ask ourselves what knid of nation do we to become and what kind of conscious do we want to form as a nation?
Forget what DAP keeps harping on, nothing new on their part. The Focus should be rebuilding from within.
Thats my part, sorry for hurt feelings
what stealing from people? Did you know that whatever project the Malay people take will also go back to the chinese/indians. WHy? Where else does the Malay buy their raw materials etc… isnt it buying from chinese/indians sellers.
i can understand your perogative sentinel but maybe you are one of the many naive chinese who got conned by the DAP in Malaysia where you think all is clear etc when Malaysia is for all. The Malays arent being racist. They are just voicing out their concern as their motherland is turning into what LKS want a Malaysia for Malaysians. Come on, LKS gotta bulls***ing me. have you been to Singapore sentinel? Have you seen any Malay that holds key positions in Singapore? LKY said back in the 60’s Malaysia for Malaysians. But if so, why Singapore for Chinese and not for Singaporeans Malay/Indians? Is this a modern day marginalised through what is said differ from what is really happening?
We are all lucky sentinel living peacefully and harmony in Malaysia. Chinese kids can go to their malls and kissing and hugging like in the western country which is ok for you i guess but when come to wearing a songkok its not? Why do you have a very negative attitude such as who cares about appearances? We were grown up to go to schools and have to wear school uniforms. It is not just appearances it is a formal event where you have to wear suit and songkok which is a must. It is like going to a formal wedding but you dont follow the dresscode like wearing a short sleeve shirt untucked and wearing shorts and slippers. It is incomplete bro.
I have many chinese and indian friends. When they invited me to their wedding i would wear a full suit to a chinese wedding and if an indian wedding i will be wearing my punjabi style drobe to blend into their culture. Nothing wrong. We live in a country full of colours. And when a dresscode for an official event requested you to wear in a complete uniform, it is a norm for normal human beings to follow the dresscode ethics.
Mind you, there are many uncorrupted and people who dont steal wear songkok and national costume in the formal event. Maybe you can name those people who you quote, “wearing songkoks, and national costume or whatever then stealing from the people”. Because i want some facts on your accusations which to me a very racist accusations as saying Malays are a corrupted figure just because they wear a songkok.
Bro, look at Singapore government. PM is the husband the GLC is owned by the wife, the husband father is the Senior Minister. Thaksin was out thrown by the monarchs because of corruption by Singtel buying Thaksin’s telco. That is corruption in the utmost.
To me, sentinel and you people should start tolerating on the Malays and Indians. They are the most deprived people in the country. If you go to any town in Malaysia, let me know if Chinese dont own any of the shop then we can have a Malaysia for Malaysians. Until we dont have an even playing ground, dont talk to me about your sense. Frankly speaking you just want more than what you have already gotten – which is too much!
actually Imad, there is some truth in ’stealing from the people’ phrase. in principal the NEP was a good idea, making sure there was an attempt at even distrubution of wealth. In any country where the majority of people is poor, its just a matter of time before they come knocking on the rich’s door with machine guns.
its quite obvious that the NEP was hijacked by the elite few in securing contracts and the money did not trickle down to the poor. there are plenty of ailing small malay businesses.
there is such blatant and unprecendented corruption that has never been seen before in this country. the concept of ali baba companies is well known, lucrative governement contracts often go to the same well connecteted people when there is enough for everyone to go around. the worst part is, we all have accepted this as normal and some even blended into the system, further enhancing a vicious cysle of corruption and kickbacks.
that is our failing which, unchecked will eventually destroy a great nation like ours. too many stories of ‘close one eye’,too many stories of custom cars for sale, too many stories of shadowy submarine deals and policemen worth a million dollars. all untrue? perhaps but there can be no smoke without the fire.
while a few bumiputera contractors benefit, the majority bumis, those without well connected friends are struggling and their unhappines is obvious. the swing in malay vote help collapsed a few state governemnts and showed several minister the way out.
take whats good, reject what bad Imad. The chinese are well of because of their culture. many fo them work for hours and place heavy emphasis (to the extent of becoming abusive!) on their children’s education.
they have small families, buy insurance policies early in life and have good saving habits. many shopowners in small towns rise at dawn and sleep at dusk, their kids can be seen manning the shop counter with their books nearby. Ever seen groups of chinese youths in small towns chilling out on the bikes?
many mechanics, contractors and plumbers work 24/7, their fingers emded with grease due to their hard labour.
if u are a chinese or and indian, u often have to sit for one of the world hardest exams, STPM, to get one of the few limited seats in medical schools locally.lcompetiton is great, life is not easy if u are a chinese trying to study locally.
every race has good and bad. when it comes to sheer hardwork, many of us indians and malays can learn a thing or two from the chinese.
we really should speak out loudly against corrupt business practices as such unhealthy cultures can derail our economy and also send the wrong kind of message to our young ones.
Forget about emptional phrases like ’stealing peples money’ and the issue of the national dress.
we need to adress and question greed and corrution among the elite in power. it is there and it needs to be checked. enough ‘closing one eye’. its the country’s future that needs to safeguarded, not someones timber contarct.
Imad, when peopel like you, rather that the DAP starts to question it , there will be an impact on the government. thats what we learnt during the 12 general elections.
i hope we can see more transperancy and fairness in warading and securing government contracts.
